Wines from Trevallon

Trevallon

The Domaine de Trévallon is located in the village of Saint-Etienne-du-Grès. The soil is limestone and rocky, all around this area which can be characterised as dry. The total vineyard area is 17 hectares.

Eloi Dürrbach planted his first vineyard in 1973 with 15 hectares 50%-50% cabernet sauvignon and syrah, and 2 hectares with marsanne and roussane.

Cabernet Sauvignon existed in Provence before phylloxera. Like Château Palmer in Bordeaux, it can be blended with Syrah to produce excellent wines. The two grape varieties and the limestone soil give Trevallon its unique character. The first wines were classified as Vin de Pays.

In 1996, Trevallon started using new labels. They are the work of René Dürrbach, Eloi's father, who died in 1999 at the age of 89. A painter and sculptor, he was a friend of many painters such as Albert Gleizes, a pioneer of cubism, Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay and Pablo Picasso. Eloi says: "I gave him 50 labels and he started to draw on them with coloured pencils, according to his inspiration. Each year we choose a label that reflects the characteristics of the vintage.

Trevallon wines are of exceptional quality and can age for a long time. The 1990 is an outstanding example of a great Trevallon.
