The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses has a fragrant nose of red plum, wild strawberry and mineral scents that are beautifully focused. There is something incisive about the bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannin, fine depth with hints of marmalade and spice towards the finish that fans out with a sense of confidence. The pedigree of this vineyard shines through in this barrel sample and hopefully that will be translated once in bottle.
Reduction flattens the underlying fruit. The gorgeously textured, precise and mineral-driven flavors are ultra-refined while delivering beautiful persistence on the strikingly complex finish. This is very classy and I particularly like the overall sense of harmony; indeed this could aptly be described as Zen-like.
