Domaine Georges Roumier
Domaine Georges Roumier is situated in Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits. The wines from this domaine are considered one of Burgundy's most costly and sought-after wines.
The history of this estate started in 1924 when Georges Roumier married Genevieve Quanquin. He took over their family vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny and started to expand the property. Instead of buying parcels, Georges Roumier used the French practise of “metayage” (sharecropping) to enlarge the domaine. He cultivated the land for the original owner in return for a part of the production. Roumier began domaine-bottling in 1945.
When Georges Roumier died in 1965, his son Jean-Marie already assisted his father (since 1957). Thereafter Christophe (Jean-Marie’s son), became the successor in 1992 and is the domaine's current winemaker. Christophe Roumier concentrates on the terroir, so new oak is used very moderate. Also, to maintain the elegance and fragrance of the wine, the ferment is kept under 32 degrees Celsius. His various wines are extremely fruity, especially in their youth, but also show an outstanding aging potential.
The most important plots in the Georges Roumier portfolio are: Le Musigny Grand Cru (0.10 Ha), Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Amoureuses” (0.40 Ha), Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (1.60 Ha) and the monopole Morey-St.-Denis 1er Cru “Clos de la Bussière” (2.59 Ha). Especially Le Musigny (vines dating from 1934) and Les Amoureuses are frightfully expensive and quite rare but probably the finest examples you will ever encounter from these appellations!
