Offering up aromas of cherries, vine smoke, orange zest, plums and spices, the 2022 Vosne-Romanée Clos d'Eugénie is medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a textural attack that segues into an ample core of creamy, perfumed fruit, concluding with a long, saline finish.
The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Le Clos d'Eugénie includes 40% whole bunches this vintage. It has a backward nose, the fruit darker than on the Vosne Villages, crushed stone filtering through the dark red fruit. Very tight. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry, touches of oyster shell complementing the cranberry and raspberry fruit on the finish that will hopefully gain a tad more persistence. It will require 4-5 years in bottle.
A discreet, if still easily perceptible, application of wood can be found on the even more floral-suffused aromas of very fresh essence of various red berries and a pretty array of spice elements. There is slightly better mid-palate density to the richer medium-bodied flavors that are noticeably firmer on the balanced, dusty and youthfully austere finale. This too is very good for its level.
Made with40% whole bunch vinification and 3 new barrels out of 9. A little deeper in colour and definitely offering greater precision on the nose compared to the village Vosne-Romanée. All in a pure and intense raspberry fruit, some strawberry at the finish, along with some pepper. Freh crisp red fruit right at the finish. Very fine.
