Bruno Clair

Bruno Clair's vineyards are spread out over seven villages and 28 different appellations. The vineyard area consists of around 24 hectare. The winery and its cellars are located in Marsannay-la-Côte, in the French department of Côte d'Or.

Joseph Clair, Bruno's grandfather, founded Domaine Clair-Daü with his wife Marguerite Dau during the First World War. Over the years, the property and the number of acres grew. After Joseph's death, a dispute arose within the family, and sections of the land were divided, but also sold to the large wineries, including Louis Jadot. All this prevented Bruno from inheriting the entire domain, but that didn’t hold him back from pursuing his dream. He started with his first plots in 1979 and since then, Bruno Clair has grown into an exclusive family business with more than 25 hectare in use.

When working in the vineyard, respect for the soil has always been the most important principle. The vinification is completely focused on seeking the expression of each terroir. The production consists mainly of Pinot Noir, but also several white wines and even a rosé wine come from the cellar of Bruno Clair. The wines are aged in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood ranging from 20 to 50%. The maturation usually takes 16 to 22 months. The grand cru wines are Chambertin Clos de Bèze and Bonnes Mares.

Each wine has its own identity due to the different terroirs. Yet all wines are characterized by elegance, balance and length. That is why it’s not surprising that Bruno is one of the big names in Burgundy.
Bruno Clair's best vintages are: 1993, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016.
