Chateau Pavie-Macquin

Château Pavie Macquin has a rich history linked to Albert Macquin, who introduced the use of grafted plants to save the vineyards from phylloxera. The current owners are his grandchildren, and since 1994, the property has been managed by Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt. In 2006, Château Pavie Macquin was awarded "Premier" in the classification of Saint Emilion.

Château Pavie Macquin is located on the Côte Pavie, adjacent to Pavie, Pavie-Decesse, and Troplong-Mondot vineyards. In 2006, Château Pavie Macquin was awarded "Premier" in the classification of Saint Emilion.

The limestone-clay soils of Pavie Macquin exhibit distinct qualities depending on the strength of the clay and their proximity to the asteriated limestone layer, which is situated between 20cm and 150cm deep. The resulting combination of power and minerality is characteristic of the terroir.

Due to its location on the limestone plateau with strong clay, the Pavie-Macquin vineyard experiences a late-ripening process. The clay's quality and the limestone's excellent water regulation balance the vineyard's "poor character" and produce a unique "terroir of character".

At Pavie Macquin predominately Merlot is grown, with some Cabernet Franc. Some 2% old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon is added to final blend.

The property has been pushing the boundaries of organic and biodynamic winemaking to develop its style, producing first-class wines.
