Chateau Gazin

Château Gazin is established in the famous Bordeaux wine district, along the shore of the Gironde river in the city Pomerol. One of the most regarded Château Gazin wines is the Château Gazin 2005, a gorgeous red wine with sweet tones of cassis and blackcurrant. This winery is regarded as one of the best wine producers in Pomerol and has one of the largest vineyards of the Pomerol district.

Around the 18th century a hospital named “Hospital of Pomeyrols” was located on the site of Château Gazin. Inspired by this historical events, this château released a second wine named “l’Hospitalet de Gazin”.

The Château Gazin vineyard is located on the highest plateau in the Pomerol region. The vineyard’s historical roots can be traced back as early as the 12th century, during the French revolution. The vineyard covers a stunning piece of land of 26 hectares and is provided with Günzian gravel and green and blue clay. These type of soils provide for the grape’s best nutrition and irrigation of water, and is one of the main features of the Château Gazin vineyard. Over 80 percent of the vineyard is planted with Merlot vines, and a smaller amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. After the grapes have reached the right maturity the grapes are harvested manually, after which the wine is fermented in concrete vats and matured in new French oak casks for approximately 18 months.

Around the early 20th century, Château Gazin became ownership of Edouard de Bailliencourt. During the years the château remained in the Bailliencourt family line, whose members has successfully continued their family legacy for five generations long!
