Robert Parker (92)

The 2015 Nierstein Pettenthal Riesling Kabinett opens with a dense, intense and complex, smoky/stony bouquet of white fruits, nutty and floral aromas. Dense and complex on the palate, still influenced from oak, this is a rich and intense Kabinett. It should not be drunk before the KabiNett is finished. It is pretty rich and sweet today and does not yet show the filigreed style of a great Kabinett. Will it ever? There is no other white grape variety on earth that can fool you like Riesling, but this should be an excellent Pettenthal, though no earlier than in 5-10 years. At the moment, I prefer the KabiNett without vineyard designation.

Winespectator (92)

Quite a serious wine for a Kabinett with plenty of mineral power which soaks up the grape sweetness making this wine almost dry. The fruit is much less effusive than the 2016, but this is also a remarkable wine.
