Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is a top producer, based in Flagey-Echézeaux, and owner of one of the most prestigious vineyards in Burgundy.
Emmanuel Rouget is the nephew of the late Henri Jayer, a legendary wine maker from Vosne-Romanée. Emmanuel started working in his uncle’s vineyards in 1976 and learned all the techniques from him. In 1996 Henri Jayer retired and transferred his vineyards to Emmanuel Rouget, but still advised his nephew and was responsible for 50% of the wines bottled under the label of Rouget until 2002.
The most important vineyard in his portfolio is, without a doubt, the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Cros Parantoux” (1.01 Ha). Planted with Pinot Noir and situated above the famous Grand Cru “Richebourg”, it includes only 0.72 Ha and is shared with Domaine Méo-Camuzet , which owns the remaining 0.29 Ha. The average annual production by Rouget of the “Cros Parantoux” is 3000 – 3500 bottles.
This vineyard is still mythical, mainly because of Henri Jayer, but Rouget also continues to produce fabulous wines from this plot of land with a striking minerality and a beautiful ageing potential. Because the wine is so rare, it is much sought after by connaisseurs, despite of its price. Another “Grand Vin” is the Echézeaux Grand Cru (1.43 Ha), made from three sectors within the vineyard. Aged in 100% new oak from François Frères and Taransaud, this complex wine displays red berry flavours and spices and a firm tannic backbone which become more silky after ageing.
Other wines from Domaine Emmanuel Rouget include: Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Beaux Monts” (0,26 Ha), a generic Vosne-Romanée from different plots (a total of 1.20 Ha) and Nuits-St.-Georges “Aux Lavières” (0.33 Ha). Top vintages for this domaine are: 1989, 1990, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
