Ramonet
Domaine Ramonet is an important estate established in Chassagne-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. Pierre Ramonet came to Chassagne at the end of the 1920’s, with nothing more than a knapsack, to produce wine.
First, he bought the grapes from local farmers, but already in 1934, he was able to buy his first plot in the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru vineyard “Les Ruchottes”. He extended his property over the years and in 1978 he finally bought the jewel in the crown, a small parcel in the world-famous “Le Montrachet” vineyard (and paid cash!).
Currently the domaine has 17 Ha of first rate vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, including the Grands Crus Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet (0.56 Ha), Bâtard-Montrachet (0.45 Ha), Chevalier-Montrachet and Le Montrachet (0.26 Ha) and several 1er Crus (8 in total). Most of the vineyards were planted with Chardonnay vines, but some of the parcels also contain Pinot Noir vines, especially the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Crus “Clos de la Boudriotte”, Clos Saint Jean” and “Morgeot”.
Domaine Ramonet is now managed by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet. They are proud of their old vines and relatively low yields and they age their top wines in maximum 70% new oak barrels after traditional fermentation. Their flagship wine is undoubtedly the Montrachet Grand Cru, which is considered one of the best examples produced from this exquisite vineyard. In the best vintages, this wine has an aging potential of more than 50 years!
