Originally from the north of France, the Ente family moved to the Bourgogne when Arnaud’s father married the daughter of winemaker Camille David from Puligny-Montrachet. Arnaud himself, who was born in 1966, installed himself in Meursault in 1992.
Arnaud also married the daughter of a wine-maker in 1991, just like his father: Marie-Odile Thévenot. After working with celebrity Coche-Dury, he decided to produce his owns wine, farmed from the vineyards of the Thévenot family.
He currently owns just 4 Ha of vineyards, including some 1er Crus, divided across 10 parcels, particularly in Meursault but also in Puligny-Montrachet. Only 4 people are working at the vineyards: Arnaud, Marie-Odile and 2 employees. His biggest holding is in the Meursault “En l’Ormeau” vineyard where he produces three types of wine, all made from the Chardonnay grape: Meursault AC, the cuvée “Clos des Ambres” and the rare cuvée “La Sève du Clos”, made from vines planted just after the phylloxera disaster at the end of the 19th century.
Furthermore, he has small plots in the Meursault 1er cru vineyard “les Gouttes d’Or” (0.22 Ha) and Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Referts” (0.22 Ha). The topwines are fermented for 11 months in oak barrels before they are put in a tank for an additional 6 months of maturation. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. Buttery richness, combined with minerality and terroir are the keywords to describe the wines from Domaine Arnaud Ente.
Since the production is very small and the wines are in high demand, it is almost impossible to find them. He furthermore produces a “Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire”, entirely made from Gamay Grapes, planted in 1938 and a red Volnay 1er Cru “Les Santenots du Milieu” made from Pinot Noir.
