Another wine to hit 15% natural alcohol, there are 2,000 cases of this blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. This estate is run by a young American entrepreneur, Steve Filipov, who uses Stephane Derenoncourt as his consultant. The 2009 is the best wine Godeau has yet produced. Made from 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from 35 year old vines, this deep purple wine exhibits notes of blueberry and blackberry fruit, a creamy, super-intense, full-bodied texture, low acid and ripe, velvety tannins. It is a stunning Godeau from a property that is probably under the radar for most American consumers. Drink it over the next 20+ years.
Fab nose. Licorice and dark cherries. What a palate. Full body, with super silky tannins and a long, long finish. Seductive juice, polished and gorgeous. This is next to Tertre Roteboeuf. 95 Merlot, 5 percent Cabernet Franc.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
