This is an amazing performance for Fombrauge in such a challenging vintage. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet, concentrated fruit as well as an espresso roast-scented bouquet displaying notions of chocolate, black cherry liqueur, and smoke. Drink this medium to full-bodied, luscious 2002 over the next 10-12 years. A blend of 71% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is unquestionably a sleeper of the vintage.
Loads of blackberries, black licorice and berries here. Full-bodied, with loads of smoky oak. Slightly hollow midpalate. Pumped up but I like it.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 17/20 points.
