Robert Parker (87)

This has always been one of the finest wines of the 1987 vintage, a year where a number of Pomerol and Graves producers turned out wines with surprising richness. The fine 1987s are characterized by soft, sweet, ripe fruit - no doubt because much of the Merlot was harvested before it was damaged by rain. This wine reveals a deep ruby color with no signs of amber or dilution. The nose is exceptionally ripe and jammy, with plenty of toasty new oak intermingled with the aroma of Provencal herbs. In the mouth, there is wonderful ripeness, rich, sweet, velvety textured fruit, medium body, and a soft finish.

I thought that this would be long gone, considering the weakness of the vintage. But it's delicious, with tobacco, dried herbs, cigar tobacco and fruit on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a long, long finish.
