The 2015 Clos de la Vieille Eglise has a floral bouquet that is extremely pure and though not intense, it reveals a sensual violet scent with a few swirls of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannin, pure black cherry and cassis fruit, with a sense of energy and tension conveyed on the lingering finish. This is a very fine Pomerol from Jean-Louis Trocard's little-known cru that has a proclivity to punch above its weight on occasion.
Warm and fleshy in feel, with steeped plum and blackberry fruit inlaid liberally with mint, cocoa powder and tobacco notes. A light cedar backdrop on the finish gives this a pleasant echo of rusticity. Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
