Deep brown in color and a bit cloudy, the 1985 Hill of Grace has sweaty saddles notes over dried cherries and menthol-laced / medicinal notes. Very tart, crisp and hard, it has chewy bordering on astringent tannins and barely any fruit left on the palate. I have scored it purely on interest factor and because it remains a generally pleasant glass, though it is past its best.
Loaded with chocolate, butter, oak and plum flavors that are evenly layered and elegant in style. Almost drinkable now with it's supple tannins and fruity charm, but it has the tannins and acidity to carry it another decade, maybe longer.
