Hubert Lignier

It was around 1880 when the first vines were purchased in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Over the years, the winery and its vineyards have been handed down from father to son. Father-and-son duo Hubert and Laurent Lignier currently manage 9 hectares of vineyards. These hectares are spread over the appellations Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Wines are produced at different levels, from regional Bourgogne AOC to Grand Cru cuvées.

Since 2011, the vines have been cultivated completely organically. Only organic products are used and no pesticides are applied. The grapes are brought in by hand, and during harvesting they are rigorously assessed for the right quality. Only the best grapes are used for wine production. The stems are also removed manually. The vinification follows old traditions. The fermentation starts in large open tanks made of cement. For the village wines, barrels are used of which 20 to 30% consists of new oak and for the Premier and Grand Cru wines this share is about 50%. The village wines usually mature for 18 months in French oak and the crus on average 24 months. Four Grand Cru wines are being marketed: the Clos de La Roche MCMLV, Clos de La Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and the Griotte-Charmbertin.

The wines are elegant, complex, full of flavor and have an everlasting aftertaste. Furthermore, the wines have a long aging potential, and they consistently score high points from the critics. Hubert Lignier definitely belongs to the top of Burgundy!
