Wines from La Spinetta

La Spinetta

La Spinetta is an Italian wine producer based in Piedmont and Tuscany. This winery produces 12 different types of wines, including the much sought-after La Spinetta Barolo Vignetto Garretti. The vineyard features mainly Nebbiolo vines (50%), followed by Barbera, Sangiovese and Chardonnay, among others.

The estate had been founded in Gastagnole delle Lanze (Piedmont) in 1977 by Lidia and Guiseppe "Pin" Rivetti. Establishing their own vineyard was a long-held dream of the Rivetti family. Pin and Lidia named their La Spinetta, which freely translated means "Top of the Hill". A year after La Spinetta was established, the first wine was produced, which was the very first single-vineyard Moscato ever.

La Spinetta produced its first red wine in 1985, called "Barbera Cà di Pian". In 1989, the Rivetti brothers released a blend of Barbera and Nebbiolo, which they called "Pin" in honour of their father and the founder of La Spinetta. The years that followed were very favourable for La Spinetta. Production capacity grew steadily and the number of vineyards expanded. In 2000, the Rivetti's bought eight hectares of land in Grinzane Cavour in Barolo (also in Piedmont) where the second vineyard called "La Spinetta Campé" was established. In 2001, 65 hectares of land was bought in Toscana, where the third vineyard called "La Spinetta Casanova" was established. And the last vineyard "Contratto" was established in 2011 in Canelli, Piedmont. In addition to producing wine, La Spinetta also produces olive oil.

La Spinetta is still fully owned by the Rivetti family, under the inspired leadership of Giorgio (head winemaker), Bruno and Carlo Rivetti.
