The 1986 is among the greatest Clerc-Milon in my memory, and continues to represent one of the better values of the 1986 vintage. Dark ruby/purple with a super bouquet of sweet, toasty new oak, plums, black currants, licorice, and cedar, on the palate, the wine is very concentrated, rich and powerful, yet atypically soft and fleshy for a 1986. While this wine should age well for another two decades, it can be drunk much earlier than many of the 1986 Pauillacs. It is a sleeper of the vintage.
Seductively rich and supple with layers of elegant plum, cherry and currant flavors that are beautifully defined before the tannins kick in on the finish. The notes linger on and on.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
