Wines from Colgin

Colgin

Colgin Cellars made its debut in 1992. The winery quickly became one of the top producers in Napa Valley, California. For nearly three decades, Ann Colgin, along with her husband Joe Wender, have been devoted to producing quality wines.

The winery owns three vineyards, two of which are located on the slopes of Mount St. Helena. The height of the plots is between 90 and 420 meters above sea level. The St. Helena vineyards have a volcanic soil with alluvial influences. This relatively poor soil means that the vine has to work hard to deliver healthy grapes. The hard work ultimately results in high-quality bunches.

Wines are produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah. The first four varieties are also known as Bordeaux varieties, from which the classic Bordeaux blend is made. Ann Colgin is a great art lover, and that is also how she views the production of wine. To her, wine is a gift from nature, and vinification is created by man. These two elements together create a true work of art.

The wines are fermented at a low temperature, so that the primary fruit aromas are well preserved. After fermentation, the wines are transferred to barrels made from French oak. This maturation takes an average of two years. Ann's wines can easily be kept for twenty years.

Despite the fact that Colgin Cellars does not have an age-old history like other renowned wineries, the winery is among the best in the world. The best Colgin Cellars vintages are: 1997, 2002, 2007, 2010, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
