Artadi

Bodega Artadi can be found in the heart of the Rioja region. In 1985, several grape growers united and decided to set up Artadi together. At the time, Artadi was a cooperative bodega. After a few years, the management was taken up by two families, Lacalle and Laorden, who made Artadi the independent winery it is today.

Their grandparents’ experiences and traditions are an important source of inspiration. They combine them with modern techniques, in order to achieve the highest  quality possible. The focus is on producing terroir-driven wines that are a good reflection of their environment. That is why all the work is carried out according to organic and biodynamic farming principles. This increases the biodiversity in the vineyards, which benefits the quality of the vines as well as the grapes.

Tempranillo is the only grape variety used. According to Artadi, it is really the vineyard where the wines are made, and maturation is the other secret. Also, the vinification process is as natural as possible; only native yeasts are used and almost no sulfites are added. The vinification takes place in large, open, barrels. The maceration lasts 1 to 2 days and then the fermentation starts, which lasts for 10-12 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wines are aged in new French oak barriques.

The portfolio comprises four different lines. The Artadi range includes five single-vineyard cuvées: the Quintanilla, San Lazaro, Valdeginés, La Poza de Ballesteros and El Carretil. Additionally, the house also markets a cava, made from 100% Viuara. Each and every one of these are unique and beautiful wines.

It is for good reason that the wines are regularly rewarded with high scores from renowned wine critics!
