Wines from Fritz Haag

Fritz Haag

Weingut Fritz Haag is among the Moselle's classic producers. The winery is located in the town of Brauneberg, in the centre of the region. The first mention of the estate was as early as 1605. At that time, the town was still called Dusemond, but in 1925 it was named after the famous Brauneberg vineyard. In 2005, Oliver Haag took over from his father and has been managing the winery with his wife Jessica ever since.

The Moselle is known for its very steep vineyards. Some plots have a gradient of more than 60%. This makes vineyard management and harvesting very intensive and can only be done by hand. The soil consists of weathered slate and is millions of years old. Fritz Haag owns two sublime vineyards: Brauneberger Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr. Brauneberger Juffer covers 32 hectares and is located on the left bank of the Moselle. Juffer Sonnenuhr covers 10.5 hectares and is slightly warmer than the Brauneberger. Both plots have excellent terroir for riesling.

At Fritz Haag, they produce several wines in different classifications, including Gutswein, Ortswein, Grosse Lage and Prädikatsweine. These are both dry and (noble) sweet wines. Only indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation. For ageing, they use both old foeders and stainless steel tanks. The wines have an elegant style and are of exceptional quality.

Fritz Haag's iconic vintages are: 2007, 2011, 2017, 2019 and 2021. In these years, one or more wines were awarded 100 Parker Points! These are the Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr and Juffer Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and the auslese.
