Robert Parker (94)

At 188 grams residual sugar, the 2008 Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Selection de Grains Nobles is the “dry” wine among its fellow S.G.N.s! And it boasts the same extreme (nearly 11 gram) acidity as the corresponding Heimbourg. Smoky black tea, candied tangerine rind, gooseberry preserves, and caramel in the nose anticipate – along with the aforementioned analysis – the sense of sweet-sour tension that prevails on a palate at once creamy and almost sharply bright. Strong salinity loosens the salivary glands in a finish whose alternation of lemon, tangerine and gooseberry preserves with caramel and smoky botrytis elements makes for a remarkably intense and protracted if somewhat raucous finish. Plan to wait 8-10 years before revisiting this, and expect it to retain its freshness – though perhaps not its fresh attitude – for at least a quarter century.

Winespectator (94)

Ripe and focused, layered with lots of fruit flavors—papaya, pineapple and peach jam—as well as notes of hard candy and smoke and hints of cardamom. Razor-sharp acidity pulls it all into balance and tames some of the opulence, leaving a long, mouthwatering finish.
