The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillas is another cool site that demands a late harvest. It has a refined bouquet that might benefit from a little more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, quite obdurate tannins. This comes across as “solid” and a little “distant”, a Nuits Saint Georges that needs to find more charm so that it can engage with its audience after bottling.

There are discreet animale hints to the cool earth-inflected aromas of plum and black berry. The rich, round and suave medium-bodied flavors possess good intensity with an abundance of palate coating extract that pushes the otherwise firm tannic spine to the background. This is very Nuits in character but not especially rustic and should reward up to a decade of cellar time if desired.
