Robert Parker (92)

According to Arnaud Mortet, the 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns comes from deep rocky soils that tend to ripen earlier than others. For ten years it has been pruned Corton Royat in order to reduce vigor, and Arnaud remarked that it has made a big difference to the quality of grape. There is no new oak here as it was fermented in a new wooden tank that imparted sufficient wood contact. It has a straightforward bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and orange rind aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a kind of naked Chambolle whereby you can really see the terroir disrobed of new oak. It is more a cerebral wine at the moment, but I am certain that it will mature with style.

Here too the reduction is strong enough to render the nose indecipherable. There is even more intensity and vibrancy to the sleek and refined middle weight flavors that are shaped by a slightly firmer tannic backbone on the mildly austere but persistent finish.
