Chateau Guiraud

Pierre Guiraud, a Bordeaux wine trader, purchased Château Guiraud from the Mons de Saint Poly Family in 1766. Within 80 years, the estate achieved greatness and was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855. In 2006, Robert Peugeot and three winemakers, Olivier Bernard, Stephan Von Neipperg, and Xavier Planty, acquired Château Guiraud.

The vineyard spans 100 hectares and consists of 80% sandy gravel and 20% deep earth, which is a blend of clay, limestone, and gravel. The heterogeneous soil and subsoil produce a variety of aromatic nuances. Natural springs at the bottom of the slopes ensure proper drainage and prevent humidity stagnation.

Château Guiraud primarily grows two grape varieties: Sauvignon (35%) and Sémillon (65%), which are vinified separately. The vineyard's average age is 35-40 years, and the harvest is done manually. The wine is aged for about 18 months in carefully selected oak barrels.

In addition to sweet Sauternes, Chateau Guiraud also makes a dry white wine. Until 2020 this wine was called the G de Guiraud, now the wine is called Guiraud Blanc Sec.

Guiraud's wines score high to very high. The 2005 Sauternes scored 95 Parker points.

Château Guiraud has been practicing organic winemaking since 1996 and has been certified organic since 2011.
