Chateau Trotanoy

Château Trotanoy

Château Trotanoy is situated in the appellation Pomerol on the right Bank of the Bordeaux area. Although there is no official classification for Pomerol, Château Trotanoy is historically considered as one of the top domaines.

The name “Trotanoy” was derived from “trop ennuie” (or “too annoying”) because the land was very hard to cultivate. The soil is a combination of clay and red gravel, with an iron-rich subsoil and is proved to be ideal for viticulture. In 1953, Château Trotanoy was purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix and was one of the few domains which survived the frost of 1956, so the vineyard has a large percentage of relatively old vines.

The size of the vineyard is 7,20 Ha, located on the west side of the “plateau” and most of the vineyard has been planted with Merlot  (90%) and a little bit of Cabernet Franc (10%). The wine is fermented in small concrete vats and aging takes place in up to 50% new oak barrels for approximately 18 months. The wine is well known for its long aging potential and is a complex and very concentrated example of an exquisite Pomerol.

In 2009, Château Trotanoy launched its second wine, named “L’espérance de Trotanoy”. It is a selection made of parcels situated in the north-eastern part of the domaine and is produced in a more approachable style than the “Grand Vin”. It is produced only in certain vintages and in small quantities.

Topvintages for Château Trotanoy are: 1945, 1947, 1955, 1959, 1961, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1982, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
