Wines from Chateau La Violette

Chateau La Violette

Château La Violette is located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation in the Bordeaux region. The estate was first owned by a cooper who made wine barrels for other wineries. It was not until the late 18th century that the estate became known for its wines.

The vineyards of La Violette are located on the Pomerol plateau. A plateau with an excellent terroir for the production of quality wines. The soil of the plateau consists of a combination of clay, limestone and gravel. The oldest vines are 60 years old or more. The vineyards are now planted with 100% merlot. Cabernet franc vines also used to be also planted here. The yields per hectare are very low, sometimes the number stays at only 18 hectoliters per hectare. This ensures high quality grapes.

The bunches are brought in by hand. After the harvest is in, the grapes undergo a cold maceration for an average of 20 days. The fermentation takes place in wooden barrels of French oak. Fermentation is followed by barrel aging for an average of 24 months. The result is a layered wine with soft tannins, lots of fruit and a long finish. A typical characteristic of this wine is the violet aroma. That is why the winery bears the name Violette.

Château La Violette has built up a good reputation in recent years and the quality is increasing year by year. La Violette belongs to the top of Pomerol! The best vintages are 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018.
