The elegant, seductive, medium-bodied 1997 is what the French call un vin de plaisir. Soft, with copious quantities of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with scents of smoky oak, roasted nuts, and weedy tobacco, it possesses a dark color, creamy texture, and no hard edges. It should drink well for a decade.
