Robert Parker (89)

Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, the 2010 Château Palmer Blanc is a blend of 49% Muscadelle, 37% Loset and 14% Sauvignon Gris that is aged in used oak. This is the second time that I have tasted this particular "unicorn" wine. The nose is still reminiscent of a Southern Rhône, albeit with more glycerine than I remember, bottle age enhancing its viscosity with scents of lemon curd, puff pastry and almond macaroons. The palate is rounded to the point of plumpness, its heaviness in the mouth countered by a fine bead of acidity. Pear drop and peach develop towards the easy-drinking, pleasant finish with tropical touches on the aftertaste. This cuvée is not commercially available - just 100 cases for private consumption - though on the rare occasion that I have encountered a bottle, I have always enjoyed it. Tasted May 2015.
