Chateau du Tertre

Château du Tertre is a 5th growth classified estate located in Margaux, Bordeaux. The estate's history dates back to the 12th century with its neighbors Cantenac-Brown, Brane-Cantenac, and Giscours in the north and east. The vineyard is located on one of the highest hills in the Margaux commune, giving its name "Tertre," meaning "knoll."

The vineyards cover 54 hectares and are farmed organically. The estate is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (20%), and Petit Verdot (5%). The grapes are manually harvested and optically sorted. Vinification is carried out in either concrete cone tanks, wooden tanks, or stainless steel tanks. Maturation occurs in French oak barrels with 45 to 55 percent new wood, lasting 15 to 18 months.

Château du Tertre's revival began in 1997 when it was bought (together with Chateau Giscours) by Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, with the aim of bringing back the quality and potential of the wines.

The estate produces Château du Tertre, Les Hauts du Tertre (the second wine), and Tertre Blanc (white wine).
