Wines from Chateau Brane Cantenac

Chateau Brane Cantenac

Brane Cantenac is located in the world-famous village of Margaux, which is located on the left bank of Bordeaux. The estate covers a total area of 75 hectares. The winery belongs to the 2nd Grand Cru Classé of the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. The estate is owned by the Lurton family, a famous wine family in Bordeaux. The fourth generation is now at the helm of this extraordinary winery.

The planting consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.5% Carmenère. Over the years, several plots have been replanted, so that every piece of land is planted with the right variety. The soil is characterized by deep, mineral-rich gravel soils. The vines are processed according to organic regulations. All these factors, paired with the low yield, ensure very high-quality bunches.

During harvesting, only the best bunches are selected. At the sorting table, the grapes are checked once again, by an optical sorting device. In the cellar, traditions and modern techniques come together nicely. A recent, complete renovation has made the vinification area suitable for sustainable winemaking. After maceration and fermentation, the wines are transferred to wooden barrels made of 70% new French oak. This maturation takes an average of 18 months. Since 2019, the winery has also produced a white wine, called Brane-Cantenac Blanc. This wine consists of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Part of the wine is aged in 225-liter barriques and another part in large 500-liter barrels. The wine is also aged sur lie, for another 8 months. In addition to the grand vin and the white wine, the winery also produces a second wine: Baron de Brane. They are all beautiful Bordeaux blends with good ageing potential. The best vintages of Brane Cantenac are 1961, 2016, and 2019.
