Wines from Chateau Belgrave

Chateau Belgrave

Château Belgrave, a 5th Growth classified estate in the 1855 Classification started producing real quality wines when Dourthe acquired it and carried out extensive renovations to the cellars and vineyards. With the help of renowned oenologist Michel Rolland, the wine's quality skyrocketed.

Located in Blanquefort Cedex, in the Médoc of Bordeaux, Château Belgrave spans 59 hectares of vineyards in the Haut-Médoc appellation. The estate follows sustainable farming practices, certified at Level 3 by HVE since 2019 and certified by Terra Vitis since 2017. The vineyards are planted with 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare.

The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo two sorting processes, one in the vineyard and the other using an optical sorting machine in the cellars. Fermentation takes place in modern stainless steel tanks equipped with automatic punching down systems. Wine blending occurs during maturation, and no racking is applied. Malolactic fermentation is partially conducted in barrels, and part of the wine is matured in oak barrels on the lees for 12 to 14 months. Château Belgrave produces sleek, stylish, and harmonious clarets that are enjoyable when young but also reward cellaring for up to 20 years.
