Wines from Weingut Brundlmayer

Weingut Brundlmayer

The family business Weingut Bründlmayer is located in the municipality of Langenlois in the Austrian region of Kamptal. The vineyards are terraced on the banks of the river Kamp, a branch of the river Krems. The winery has a total of 80 hectares in production. The oldest vines are up to 90 years old!

The vineyards are grown and processed organically. The whole process is aimed at increasing biodiversity within the vineyard, which is why natural compost from plants is used. The soil is characterized by hard rock with loess. The bunches of grapes are brought in by hand from mid-September to sometimes even into December. Grüner Veltliner is the most important grape variety and accounts for most of the plantings. In addition, Riesling, Chardonnay, Muskateller and French varieties such as Grau- and Weissburgunder (Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc) are used. Willi Bründlmayer also makes red wines from Pinot Noir, Zweigelt and Sankt-Laurent.

Once the grapes are inside, they are fermented at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. This way, the fresh fruit aromas are preserved well. Not all wines mature in barrel, these are mainly the red wines and the Chardonnay. The wooden barrels are made of acacia or Austrian oak. Depending on the variety, the wines are aged for three to eighteen months in stainless steel tanks or wooden barrels.

The location, the soil and the vinification lead to concentrated grapes and eventually to complex wines. The wines of Willi Bründlmayer belong to the top of Austria. In 2009, Willi was even named the best Austrian winemaker of the last 25 years according to the Wine & Spirits Magazine!
