Robert Parker (96)

The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses offers a beguiling sense of harmony and finesse on the nose that already seems too composed and elegant, unfolding in the glass to reveal fresh strawberry, pomegranate and minerals. It is less exuberant and feisty compared to other Amoureuses that I have tasted, more refined. The palate is very well balanced with a captivating sense of energy on the entry. The tannins are very fine, the acidity quite noticeable with a wondrous sense of symmetry and edginess on the finish. This is one of the finest Amoureuses that I have tasted from de Vogue in recent years.

Needs lots of encouragement out of the glass. 'It's aloof like a Bronzino Italian gentleman,' was one comment. Eventually opened out on the nose and is massive on the palate. Solid and definitely earthbound for the moment. A bit of lift on the end but this is just SO youthful. All potential. Lots going on underneath and some rich fruit here. Very long. It's all on the peacock's tail finish.
