Bodegas Hacienda

Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio is located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region in Spain. The idea of Peter Sissseck to establish a bodega originated in 1990. Two years later, he found his right-hand man, Carlos de la Fuente. Together they are responsible for the winery’s high quality.

The winery owns a total of 167 hectares, of which 108 hectares are intended for viticulture. The vineyards are scattered throughout the Duero Valley at an altitude of about 750 meters. This altitude, along with the temperature difference between day and night, allows optimal ripening for the grapes without losing their acids. The utmost important grape variety is the tempranillo, which is locally called tinto fino. In addition, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and malbec can also be found in the vineyards. These grape varieties are used to add extra structure to the tinto fino. The vines are grown organically and only natural products are used. For several years now, the bodega has held the local CAECIL (Consejo Argicultura Ecológica de Castilla y Léon) certificate for organic viticulture.

Winemaker Peter Sisseck graduated from the University of Bordeaux and that is where he learned the tricks of the trade. For a long time, he was also an advisory winemaker for several wineries in Spain and France. The current wine cellar was built in 1991 and was designed by French architect Phillipe Mazières. At that time, Phillipe worked for renowned wineries such as Château d'Yquem and Château Margaux.

In de cellar, you can find temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. Only natural yeasts are used for fermentation. All wines from Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio have aged for at least 12 months in French oak, but in general the wines only come onto the market after 18 months of maturation. The wines of Hacienda Monasterio are powerful, complex, and have good aging potential.

The portfolio consists of three top wines: Cosecha, Reserva and Reserva Especial. The wines of Hacienda Monasterio are popular around the world. The best vintages of Hacienda Monasterio are: 2001, 2002, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015.
