Wines from Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse

Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse

The history of Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse dates back to the middle of the 18th century when Arnaud Ducasse bought a small house next to the Gironde river, later extended by buying parcels of land by Pierre Ducasse. That became the start of the Chateau which remained in the family for almost 300 years.

In 1971 an investment group bought the somewhat dormant estate and eventually sold it in 2004 to a subsidiary of the Groupe Crédit Agricole which invested in amongst others the chai and replanting the vineyards.

The 40 hectare Medoc vineyard of Grand Puy Ducasse is planted with 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot with an average age of 25 years. Average yields are 40 hectolitres per hectare.

The vineyard's lie on sandy Garonne gravel within the Pauillac appellation and border those of Mouton, Lafite and Pontet-Canet and are the direct neighbourhood of Pichon Baron and Lynch Bages.

Harvest is done manually, the wines are aged in 30%-40% new, French oak barrels for around 18 months. Production is 100.000 – 120.000 bottles.
