The day after...

The day after...

A game of cards played with fellow wine lovers is always a challenge: after a while it gets more and more difficult to concentrate on your cards. Or was it the wine? Either way, it was even more difficult last night when these two wines were served.##

Palmer 1989 is one of my all-time favourites. This night I could compare it with Vega Sicilia “Unico” Reserva Especiale 85-90-91. You could write a hundred words at least about the differences between these two wines. But writing about what they have in common, even more! Both are great: an almost perfectly balanced Unico, and a perfectly balanced Palmer. A superb length, and it was going down like liquid silk. A true experience, heightened by the excitement of pitting such great wines against each other. (And of course the card game).

The fruit, the complexity, what more do you need? It would be hard to pick a winner between such close runner-ups, but the balance on the Palmer was impeccable, so the scores reflect that as well. Palmer BOW 10, Unico BOW 9+
